Identifying Children with Short Stature (ICSS) Short stature unless identified early before the age of Puberty may not be possible to be treated. Early identification of short stature is very important as it can be a presentation of any chronic underling disease and unless intervention is done in appropriate age future growth may not be feasible.
This project was done to access the prevails of the short stature and reason behind the short stature in 23 schools in Madurai, 14 schools in Dindigul, 11 schools in Vadamadurai city during 2014 in association with Alpha hospital and Research Centre. After the identification we started examining the short children in schools and for further diagnosis and treatment the students were referred to Alpha Hospital and Research Centre.
This study was done in 48 schools. A total of 22583 students were screened and teachers were educated regarding the problem associated with short stature. There was a total of 448 short children. The total prevalence ranging from 2 to 4% in various schools.
To create awareness among students painting competition was conducted and prizes and participation certificates were awarded.
